The All Seasons 'Help for Heroes' garden at Chelsea Flower Show 2009

All Seasons Design and Landscaping are proud to announce that their "Help for Heroes Sanctuary Garden," designed for prominent UK charity Help for Heroes, won a Silver Medal at the Chelsea Flower Show this May. All Seasons' Drusilla Stewart has worked together with friend and fellow designer Will Beresford to create this inspirational garden. It was a very long and testing journey, but so very much worth it!

The garden was designed to be easily accessed by those with mobility issues and to appeal to all the senses. The design itself was inspired by conversations with the wives of servicemen whose husbands are about to deploy to Afghanistan this year and was designed as a symbolic sanctuary where those who do not return safely can find focus and the peace with which to deal with either physical or mental trauma after the ordeal of operations.

As many of you may know, I am an army wife and my husband John unfortunately did not see the completed garden as he had deployed on operations just before the show opens. However both of us are utterly delighted with the awareness we raised for Help for Heroes and the money we raised for them as well. Most of all I was honoured to be representing Help For Heroes in their very first appearance at Chelsea

Inspiration

This was about taking an active involvement in caring for our husbands, wives, boyfriends, girlfriends, sons and daughters. That which happens to them is obviously beyond our control, but we are continuing to do all we can to ensure that when they return to us, if they are injured, they have the best care possible.

Ours was a garden built for heroes, by heroes and to raise awareness and funding for Help for Heroes.

 

We promised Help for Heroes that with our Chelsea Flower Show garden as the focus, we would raise a total of £30,000 for their charity. Instead we raised £78,329… none of us think it is too much.
